Understanding Edge Computing

[fa icon="calendar'] Nov 10, 2017 10:35:00 AM / by Rittal North America LLC posted in Data Center Solutions, Rittal Success Stories

Edge Computing Defined

Edge computing houses data processing capability at or near the “edge” of a network. Usually, servers are contained in a micro data center, with as few as one or two enclosures. Data which is mission-critical, such as a system fail, is captured and available in real-time on site. Edge computing is valuable in capturing bandwidth intensive and latency sensitive data for analysis, lowering operating costs and improving energy efficiency. Lower priority data can be sent to the cloud or to a remote data center.

What Edge Computing Means for IT

[fa icon="calendar'] Nov 8, 2017 9:36:24 AM / by Rittal North America LLC posted in Data Center Solutions, Rittal Success Stories

Edge computing has risen to the forefront of information management in a very short time. Edge computing houses data processing capability at or near the “edge” of a network. The efficiency of this data management is well-documented. It is difficult to argue that accessing real time data for analysis is superior to later data retrieval. Latency of mission critical data is virtually eliminated. The decreased use of bandwidth and the elimination of data bottleneck to the main data center or cloud enhances productivity and cost savings.
