Edge Computing Defined

Edge computing houses data processing capability at or near the “edge” of a network. Usually, servers are contained in a micro data center, with as few as one or two enclosures. Data which is mission-critical, such as a system fail, is captured and available in real-time on site. Edge computing is valuable in capturing bandwidth intensive and latency sensitive data for analysis, lowering operating costs and improving energy efficiency. Lower priority data can be sent to the cloud or to a remote data center.

Data Centers in Extreme Environments with Rittal and EDGE MCS

[fa icon="calendar'] May 19, 2017 1:50:11 PM / by Rittal Enclosures posted in Data Center Solutions, IT security, edge computing, Modular data centers

Rittal Corporation teamed up with Edge Mission Critical Systems (Edge MCS) to support their turnkey modular data solutions for edge network applications marketed as the Binary Bunker. In the Binary Bunkers they build, Edge MCS employs Rittal products for enclosures, racking, and cooling.

As the Internet of Things (IoT) expands, massive amounts of data and content require faster processing and better security. Products like the Binary Bunker become more appealing than large capital expenditures on conventional data center platforms. For savvy companies, edge computing allows them to get closer to the data, improving speed, performance, productivity and security at a fraction of the cost of a conventional data center. The prefabricated modular data centers offered by Edge MCS employ lightweight concrete for strength, long life, and environmental stability. With their triple

What’s the Weather Like in Your Electronics Enclosure?

[fa icon="calendar'] Sep 1, 2015 2:00:00 PM / by Rittal Enclosures posted in Rittal Enclosures, Climate Control, Data Center Solutions

Climate control inside your electronics enclosures is key to the survivability of the electronics residing there. Temperature rise in enclosures can be caused by contact problems with live conductors or incorrect dimensioning of switchgear and conductors. Also, when operating a low-voltage switchgear assembly, short-circuit losses occur, leading to a temperature rise in the enclosure’s internal air and, connected with this, inferior heat dissipation via the surface of the installed components and assemblies. This can lead to component damage.
